- Cut the sales tax on food and raise the inheritance tax exemption

Once an educator himself, Ben believes in having the best education for the money. Some of his goals in education are to:
- Increase the basic Education Program teacher salary component
- Provide for more control and innovation at the local level
- Recruit and retain the best and brightest leaders as principals in our schools

- Protect the rainy day fund so we are better prepared to weather economic downturns
- Cultivate an environment of customer service and value throughout the state government
- Consolidate the more than 200 state boards and commissions
